In keeping with my annual school-opening tradition, after we ensure all children have safely arrived to their schools, I make a visit to every classroom in the school district to welcome and re-familiarize myself with all the students. These visits aid in my ability to maintain vision on our school division's mission, and these visits strengthen the fabric of our school system. I'm always amazed by the fresh student perspective ranging from the preK level to our seniors in high school. Today, a third grade girl raised her hand and exclaimed, "This is the best day of my life."
Of course the teacher, other students, and I completely embraced her statement and moved forward with other positive discussions. The little girl just beamed with pride at our support of her.
Simply stated, if we embrace every single day with the correct attitude similar to that little girl, then there is nothing we cannot conquer. As I visited the grade levels inclusively up to the twelfth grade, I told that story. As I conversed, sometimes humorously, with the students throughout the day I could tell one thing when I looked into their eyes: they just want to do their best and experience the best day in their life. So, to that end, let's keep moving forward with a truly selfless positive spirit as employees and adults so we can give our students the tools they need to have the best "days" of their lives. The power is within us as adults to do so. I believe we have those employees and I'm appreciative of that. Let's have a great year, Buckingham!!!
