📡✨ From BCPS Student to Science Speaker! ✨📡
On Friday, March 6, 2026, Buckingham County was proud to welcome back William Payne, BCPS Class of 2023, as a guest speaker for our 8th grade science classes and a select group of 6th graders.
Mr. Payne delivered an engaging Introduction to Radio presentation that took students on a journey through the science of radio waves — from everyday uses like X-rays and microwaves to the fascinating world of shortwave radio transmission and reception.
After explaining how radio waves power communication across the globe, he brought science to life with a live demonstration using his portable radio station. In a short amount of time — with minimal equipment — Mr. Payne successfully made contact with operators in seven different states:
📍 New York
📍 Connecticut
📍 Illinois
📍 Georgia
📍 Florida
📍 Alabama
📍 Ohio
Students were amazed to see real-time communication happening right before their eyes! What started as a science lesson quickly turned into inspiration. The excitement from the demonstrations has already sparked interest in launching a radio or technology club here at the school.
We love seeing our alumni return to give back, inspire curiosity, and show our students what’s possible. Thank you, Mr. Payne, for helping us turn science into an unforgettable experience!

💛 Happy School Social Work Week! 💛
March 1–7, 2026
This week, we proudly celebrate our incredible School Social Worker, Britney Richardson!
Britney plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students. Whether she is providing direct support to students, partnering with families, connecting individuals to community resources, or collaborating with staff, Britney leads with compassion, professionalism, and a heart for service.
Her work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout our entire school community. She helps remove barriers, builds strong relationships, and ensures that every student has the support they need to succeed.
Thank you, Britney, for the care, advocacy, and dedication you show our students and families each and every day. We are so grateful for you! 💙
