🚌 Happy Bus Driver Appreciation Day! 💚💛
Today, we celebrate the incredible men and women who do so much more than drive a bus.
You are the first friendly face our students see in the morning and the last smile they see at the end of the day. Your dedication helps ensure our Knights arrive safely, on time, and ready to learn—every single day.
Thank you for your patience, kindness, and for going the extra mile for our students and families.
We appreciate you today and every day! 💚💛

Please join us in welcoming Sharon Pettus to Buckingham County Public Schools!

Mrs. Denise Bryant, the current Primary School principal, will remain in her role through June 30, 2026. She will assist Mrs. Pettus during her transition. Mrs. Bryant will transfer to Coordinator of Instructional Support effective July 1, 2026.

Message from Mrs. Pettus: I am incredibly honored and excited to serve as the new Principal of Buckingham Primary School. With a background in elementary education and school leadership, I am deeply committed to fostering a positive, student-centered learning environment where every child can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Throughout my career, I have focused on supporting high-quality instruction, building strong relationships with students, staff, and families, and ensuring meaningful outcomes for all learners. As an educator, this work has always been more than a career—it is truly a calling. I believe that strong relationships, high expectations, and a shared commitment to student success are the foundation of a thriving school community. I am especially excited to join a dedicated staff and partner with our students, families, and the broader community to build on the great work already happening at Buckingham Primary. On a personal note, I am a proud wife and the mother of three grown boys—roles that have shaped my perspective, strengthened my commitment to children, and deepened my understanding of the importance of education and community. I look forward to this new chapter and to working together to ensure every child at Buckingham Primary feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed.

Our Seniors of the Month and Teachers of the Year had an incredible and unforgettable experience! 🇺🇸

Students received a letter and photo from President Trump, along with recognition from Congressman John McGuire as leaders of achievement. They also had the opportunity to visit the Capitol and meet Congressman McGuire in person—an inspiring moment for all!

A heartfelt thank you to Ramona Christian for organizing such a meaningful experience for our students and staff. We’re also grateful to Ronnie Palmore, Latasha Harper, Ashley Carter, and Damon Talley for sharing the driving responsibilities and helping make this trip possible.

The BCHS JROTC Department is proud to announce our 2nd National-level Scholarship recipient, Maira Portillo.
This scholarship is worth between $120,000 to $130,000. It's a three-year ride, and James Madison University will pick up the 4th year.

"Maira is one of the hardest-working kids I've had in my 18 years at Buckingham HS."
- Sgt. Grazier

Please congratulate this soon-to-be Army Officer. This is an extremely hard Scholarship to receive, and the second national-level scholarship the JROTC students have earned this year is a HUGE accomplishment.
