Good afternoon BCPS Families,

This alert contains two messages. Please listen carefully to the entirety of the alert.

First, Buckingham County Public Schools will offer a food distribution for two days of breakfast and lunch to support families who may need assistance.

Food pick-up will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 3:00–4:00 p.m. in the Buckingham County Middle School parking lot, with distribution taking place near the cafeteria doors.

Families who would like to receive food must complete the sign-up form by 4:00 p.m. TODAY, Wednesday, January 28, 2026. THIS IS A HARD DEADLINE. This opportunity is available to all BCPS families.

Additionally, our team is working diligently to clear parking lots and sidewalks, but secondary roads are still treacherous. As such, Buckingham County Public Schools will be closed for all students on Thursday, January 29, 2026, and Friday, January 30, 2026. 12-month employees will report at noon on both days. These will be remote/asynchronous learning days. Instructional review packets were sent home with students on Friday. BES is inviting all families to participate in our Black History Month Family Engagement Project! This is a special opportunity for students and families to learn together and celebrate the achievements, culture, and impact of influential African American leaders throughout history.

BES parents, due to the weather, our Title I Parent Information Night scheduled for tomorrow, January 27th, will be rescheduled to a later date in February.

❄️ Winter Weather Meal Pickup – Care in Action ❄️ As we prepare for the incoming winter weather, Buckingham County Public Schools was proud to support our students and families by providing meals to ensure no child goes without during the storm. Thanks to the incredible teamwork of our cafeteria staff, maintenance team, grounds team, central office staff, and other dedicated school employees, more than 400 students received meals; prepared, packed, and delivered with care. From early morning planning to lifting boxes, organizing bags, and making sure everything ran smoothly, this effort truly showcased what it means to be a school community that takes care of its own. 💚 We are grateful for the hard work, flexibility, and heart shown by our staff, and thankful for the opportunity to serve our students when it matters most. #EveryKnightEveryDay

At BES, 5th grade students are finishing up their light unit in Science. Today, they got to put what they have learned to use and conduct a light experiment. They tested multiple materials to discover if the material was opaque, translucent, or transparent. They then documented if the light reflected off of the material or if the material caused the light to refract! Way to go 5th grade! Keep being scientists! 🔦

📅 Reminder for Families
There will be no school on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We encourage our students and families to take time to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of service, equality, and justice.

Buckingham Elementary students are so thankful and grateful for their principal. Mrs. Morris goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her students and staff daily. We wouldn't be the same without her! Happy Principal Appreciation week Mrs.Morris! ❤️

Today at BES, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students were handed a card and asked to finish the sentence "Something good that happened to me today was...". It's very easy to overlook the little things in life, but at BES the little things are what make us shine! 🤩
